It’s so important because it’s a time to celebrate not only our mothers, but who we are. When we are little, it was our mothers who shaped our world. They taught us that the world was either safe or scary. In SEX HAPPENS, the main character returns home from school and never knows whether today her mother will be kind and loving, or as she was on some many occasions, be dismissive and abusive. To the child, her world, her mother was frightening and the little girl never felt safe—life was unpredictable and even dangerous. So if you have or had a mother who taught you the world was safe, embrace her and be thankful.
